Ivan Shishkin (1832–1898): Noon. Neighborhoods of Moscow, 1869, oil on canvas, 111.2 x 80.4 cm, Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow 19th century Russian landscape painter Ivan Shishkin created 'Noon. Neighborhoods of Moscow' in the 1860s, when he lived in Bratsevo, at the North-West of Moscow. In the picture, the artist manages to portray a kind of “ideal” Russian landscape: A group of local people walk on a crooked country road which lies through the fields of wheat; by a stream flowing in the distance is a small village with a towering church bell tower. This landscape is not quite typical among the artist's oeuvre. His favorite theme wasforest scenes. Here is the vast pale blue sky with bright sunlight penetrating through silver clouds occupies a significant part of the canvas.
