Carl Larsson (1853 – 1919): A Christmas Eve (detail), 1904, National Museum, Stockholm Many of Carl Larsson’s best-known works depict his own family and social circle. In his memoirs, Jag (Me) – published after Larsson's death – Larsson states that the pictures of his family and home became the most immediate and lasting part of his life's work. Hee says; "For these pictures are of course a very genuine expression of gmy personality, deepest feelings, of my limitless love for my wife and children." The painting here depicts a Christmas Eve celebration.
