Lucas Cranach the Elder was one of the representatives of the art of the German Reformation. Having spent several years in Vienna, he left for Wittenberg where he worked as the court putter of the Electors of Saxony in the period from 1504 to 1505. He and his workshop created a number of painted altarpieces, allegorical paintings and individual portraits, an example of which is shown here.
