John Singer Sargent (1856-1925) could only work for a few minutes each evening on Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose (1885-1886). For many, many evenings, he put his canvas outside and his models in place for the two to three minutes that he could capture them in the mauvish light of dusk. The painting shows two girls lighting their lanterns for the evening, while being surrounded by flowers. #Art #Artwork #Painting #HistoryofArt #ArtHistory #Sargent #JohnSingerSargent #Carnation #Lily #Rose #Lanterns #Lanters Dusk #Evening #Roses #Lilies #Flowers #Dedication #Tate #Gallery #London #TateBritain
