The man who thinks he is a genius and has to stay in a cheap attic to follow his passion. The Poor Poet (1839) by Carl Spitzweg is full of details creating the narrative. The books, the manuscript, the umbrella for the leaking roof, the stove, the single boot, etc. The poet stays in his bed (or better said, his mattress) to keep himself warm, because it is cold outside. You can see the snow on the roofs outside. The alternative to stay warm is to burn some of his books, but this is certainly not an option for this poet. Carl Spitzweg (1808-1885) was a German Romantic painter, best-known for his genre pieces #Art #Painting #Artwork #ArtHistory #HistoryofArt #OilPainting #OilonCanvas #Poet #Poor #PoorPoet #Poetry #Poverty #Attic #Genius #Passion #Cold #CarlSpitzweg #Spitzweg #GermanArtist
