Into the Water (1898) is not a summery beach scene. Instead it's a fisherman's wife who takes her children for a little bath in the sea. It's painted by Virginie Demont-Breton (1859-1935) who specialized in painting family scenes with mothers and children. She was not only a talented and successful artist, she also became president of the Union of Women Painters and Sculptors in which role she fought for gender equality between male and female painters. She had success in allowing women to enter the art academy and women being considered for prestigious art prices. #Art #Painting #Artwork #ArtHistory #HistoryofArt #OilPainting #OilonCanvas #DemontBreton #Demont #Breton #FemaleArtist #FemalePainter #FamilyScene #Family #Mother #Children #Bath #Beach
