Security two centuries ago. The Palace Guard (1900) was created by Ludwig Deutsch (1855-1935), an Austrian painter specialized in Oriental Art. A proud and Nubian or Sudanese sentinel stand guard in front of a palace. He wears a colorful outfit, which Deutsch captures in great detail. We can recognize fancy slippers decorated with gold, body armor, a red drape, a yellow-ish cloth, and a green head scarf. He wears several weapons, including an Ottoman yataghan, a jade-hilted kindjal dagger, and a flintlock pistol. And next to him are his helmet and shield. The palace that he stands in front of resembles part of the Mosque of Sultan Hassan in Cairo. #Art #Painting #Artwork #ArtHistory #HistoryofArt #OilPainting #OilonPanel #Austrian #AustrianArt #AustrianArtist #AustrianPainter #Oriental #Orientalist #Orientalism #PalaceGuard #Guard #Vataghan #Dager #Pistol #Cairo
