One does not always need colors to create a masterpiece. The Pilgrim's Pulpit in St. Stephan is a pastel painting by Ludwig Rösch (1865-1936). It shows the Gothic interior of St. Stephen's Cathedral, and the highlight of this cathedral is the pulpit from where the preacher delivers a sermon. It was made between 1510 and 1515 from sand-lime brick, and today it is only used on special occasions. And while the pulpit itself is already intriguing and spectacular, this painting by Rösch makes it even more mysterious and intriguing. The pulpit is full of beautiful sculptures, but Rösch has focused on capturing the architectural setting instead of all the intricate details. #Art #Painting #Artwork #ArtHistory #HistoryofArt #Pastel #PastelPainting #Pulpit #AustrianArt #AustrianArtist #AustrianPainter #StStephan #Vienna #Wien #Preacher #Preach #Church #Cathedral #Architecture #Mysterious #PastelonPaper
