The things she did for her people. Lady Godiva is a watercolor painting by Edward Henry Corbould (1815-1905). We see Lady Godiva about to ride naked through the streets of Coventry in the 11th century, as that was the only way her husband would want to lower the oppressive tax rate for his citizens. According to the legend, the husband of Lady Godiva put very high tax rates in place for his citizens. Lady Godiva asked him repeatedly to lower them, which he did not do. One day, he mentioned that he would do it if she would ride naked through the streets of Coventry. She did that, and her husband kept his promise. #Art #Painting #Artwork #ArtHistory #HistoryofArt #Watercolor #Watercolour #WatercolorPainting #Corbould #BritishArtist #BritishPainter #BritishArt #LadyGodiva #Hero #Heroine #Heroic #Coventry #Legend #Horse
