A young man on a mission. This portrait of Lieutenant Hon. Vere Sidney Tudor Harmsworth (25 September 1895 - 13 November 1916) was painted in 1916 by Philip de László. It shows a handsome British soldier posing for the Anglo-Hungarian portrait painter Philip de László (1869-1937). He painted numerous portraits of European royals and aristocrats. Among them is a portrait, painted in 1933, of Princess Elizabeth of York, who is currently Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. The man in this painting was the son of Harold Harmsworth, 1st Viscount Rothermere, who was the founder of both the Daily Mail and the Daily Mirror. Unfortunately, two of his three sons, including the one portrayed here died during WWI. #Art #Painting #Artwork #ArtHistory #HistoryofArt #OilPainting #OilonCanvas #BritishArt #BritishArtist #HungarianArtist #BritishPainter #HungarianPainter #Soldier #Military #WWI #Portrait #PortraitPainting #PhilipdeLaszlo #DeLaszlo #Laszlo #Harmsworth #Britith
