Max Liebermann (1847 – 1935): The Courtyard of the Orphanage in Amsterdam, 1881-82, Oil on canvas, 79 x 108 cm, Städel Museum, Frankfurt In 1871 and subsequently, Liebermann repeatedly visited the Netherlands, some of his stays there being lengthy.
