Don’t be fooled by this “ruin”… The Roman Ruin in Schönbrunn (1892) by the Austrian artist Carl Moll (1861-1945) shows a fountain in the Schönbrunn Palace Gardens in Vienna, and you can still visit it today. Some people would call this a folly, which is an architectural structure that primarily exists for decoration. And it is not a real Roman ruin, it was actually constructed in 1778 to resemble an ancient Roman ruin. And as you can see in this wonderful painting, they did a great job to make it look like a majestic but decaying ruin, including discoloration, some statues, and piece of the structure that have fallen on the ground. #Art #Painting #Artwork #ArtHistory #HistoryofArt #OilPainting #OilonCanvas #FineArts #ArtoftheDay #Ruin #Roman #Schonburnn #Vienna #Austria #Austrian #AustrianArt #AustrianArtist #AustrianPainter #Folly #CarlMoll #Moll
