When do you think this "ancient Roman ruin" was built? The Roman Ruin in Schönbrunn (1892) was painted by the Austrian artist Carl Moll (1861-1945). I just released a video discussing this work, as well as two other magnificent paintings of this fake, ancient ruin in the gardens of Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna. You can find the link to the video in my bio. The Roman Ruin here was built in 1778 and is called a folly, an extravagant structure which main purpose is decorative. It consists of a rectangular pool with a large arch with lateral walls. The idea was that it should resemble an ancient Roman ruin. To be credible, they included the likely deterioration and discoloration of an ancient Roman Ruin in their design. Let me know here or in the comments below my YouTube video if you enjoy this kind of video, or if you prefer another type of art video. #Art #Painting #Artwork #ArtHistory #HistoryofArt #OilPainting #OilonCanvas #FineArts #ArtoftheDay #Schonbrunn #RomanRuin #Roman #Ruin #Folly #CarlMoll #Moll #AustrianArt #AustrianPainter AustrianArtist #ArtVideo
