The calm before the storm. Before the Storm (1916) was painted by the Swiss French artist Felix Vallotton (1865-1925). The painting is also known as The Entrance to the Villa Beaulieu in Honfleur. And it was painted in the middle of World War I, and it can be interpreted as an allegorical reference to the war. Everything may be looking peaceful and calm, but sometimes you know that the storm is about to come. It may look like a simple work, almost as if a child could have done it, but Vallotton did this simplification on purpose. He started out with a very precise and detailed drawing, and then simplified it as much as he could to only keep the essence. #Art #Painting #Artwork #ArtHistory #HistoryofArt #OilPainting #OilonCanvas #FineArts #ArtoftheDay #Vallotton #FelixVallotton #Honfleur #FrenchArt #FrenchArtist #FrenchPainter #Storm #Quiet #Calm
