The road ahead is empty.. La Route Nationale à Chessy (1885) was painted by the French artist Léo Gausson (1860-1944). Gausson was a wonderful painter who picked up various trendy art genres throughout his career, including Impressionism, Neo-Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, and Synthetism. However, he has never quite achieved the fame that some of the artists achieved who really stuck to their style (think about Monet, Van Gogh, Seurat, Gauguin, Matisse). During the second half of the 1880s, he was a big fan of Van Gogh, and his works got a quite similar feel. In 1888, during an exhibition of the Artistes Indépendants, his works hung even next to those by Van Gogh. He really wanted to exchange one of his works with one by Van Gogh. But Vincent van Gogh died too early to complete this exchange, however, shortly after he managed to complete the exchange with Van Gogh’s brother Theo. #Art #Painting #Artwork #ArtHistory #HistoryofArt #OilPainting #OilonCanvas #FineArts #ArtoftheDay #LeoGausson #Gausson #PostImpressionism #Impressionism #Landscape #VanGogh #FrenchArt #FrenchArtist #FrenchPainter
