Calming or unsettling? Water Way (1895) was painted by the French artist Charles Guilloux (1866-1946). What is your feeling when looking at the Symbolist landscape scene? Guilloux was a self-taught artist, who created relatively simple painting with pretty generic names. Typical names for his artworks are “Landscape” and “Twilight”. The advantage is that we are not really influenced by the title when looking at his art, and we can form our own, independent opinions about it. During the 20th century, this idea of generic titles was continued and was a perfect way to label more abstract works of art. #Art #Painting #Artwork #ArtHistory #HistoryofArt #OilPainting #OilonCanvas #FineArts #ArtoftheDay #Guilloux #CharlesGuilloux #FrenchArt #FrenchArtist #FrenchPainter #Calming #Unsettling #Feeling #Landscape #WaterWay
