Those colors! The Yellow Kimono was painted by the British-Canadian artist Archibald George Barnes (1887-1974). Barnes spent the first half of his life in London, but in 1930 he permanently moved to Toronto, Canada. He specialized in portrait and flower paintings, often including some flowers into his portraits. And while kimonos are known for their beautiful colors, I know few paintings of kimonos or other garments that have rendered the colors so beautifully. The painting looks pretty simple looking at the composition and the large blocks of colors, but if you look at it in more detail, you can see how carefully Barnes has included the shadows. The painting sold in 2016 for almost $35,000. And let me know in the comments which other portraits with beautiful colors come to your mind… #Art #Painting #Artwork #ArtHistory #HistoryofArt #OilPainting #OilonCanvas #FineArts #ArtoftheDay #Kimono #Yellow #YellowKimono #Barnes #BritishArtist #CanadianArtist #BritishArt #CanadianArt rt #Colors #Colorful #Portrait #PortraitPainting
