A different kind of wedding photographer… These two wedding scenes were painted by the French artist Pascal Dagnan-Bouveret (1852-1929). The first one is called Wedding in the Photographer’s Studio (1879) and the second one Blessing of the Young Couple Before Marriage (1881). They both provide us with a look at a 19th-century French wedding. It is interesting to see how the wedding fashion for the bride, groom, and the guests in 19th-century France differ from today, but equally interesting to notice that not that much has changed with the current wedding fashion in the western world. And I have one final thought about the second image, where the priest makes me remember me of the groom of the The Unequal Marriage (1863) by Vassily Pukirev (1832-1890). #Art #Painting #Artwork #ArtHistory #HistoryofArt #OilPainting #OilonCanvas #FineArts #ArtoftheDay #DagnanBouveret #Bouveret #Dagnan #FrenchArt #FrenchArtist #FrenchPainter #Wedding #WeddingPhotographer #WeddingPhotography #FrenchWedding
