Homeschooling in the 1800s. The First Lesson was painted by the French artist Louis Emile Adan (1839-1937). It shows an adorable girl at grandma’s house. She is wearing a pretty dress and is ready for the school lesson of grandma, who put her knitting to the side. Grandma has a large schoolbook in front of her. It may be hard to see, but on the page on the right (from our point of view) are the letters of the alphabet in very large font, while the other page seems to contain some drawings, possibly with words below them to practice putting the letters together. The house is very organized, and it seems that grandma has everything under control. Though there is also time for some fun, as it seems that the girl has taken the glasses of her grandmother to try them out. #Art #Painting #Artwork #ArtHistory #HistoryofArt #OilPainting #OilonCanvas #FineArts #ArtoftheDay #Adan #LouisAdan #LouisEmileAdan #FrenchArt #FrenchArtist #FrenchPainter #Homeschooling #Alphabet #Glasses #Adorable
